~Famous Racehorse Artists And Paintings Part 2~

Well, tomorrow is a big day for racing fans around the world. If  California Chrome wins the Belmont, he will be the 12th horse to do so! GO Chrome!!
In my last post I featured a bronze statue of a past Triple Crown winner, Secretariat.
And in this post, I will be featuring a horse that millions of  people from around the globe loved…..
                                                     ~Barbaro~

This statue of the famous racehorse, Barbaro, created by his owners, Mr. & Mrs. Roy Jackson. The sculpture  stands at the entrance of Church Hill Downs and Kentucky Derby Museum and  was unveiled on April  26, 2009. Renowned equine sculptor Alexa King was selected  out of a hundred of  artists to  depict  Barbaro skimming the inside rail with Jockey Edgar Prado with all four feet off the ground at the Church Hill Downs Derby. Her exceptional talent has captured Barbaro’s beauty and spirit. She  has been an artist all her life and her studio is in Versailles, KY . Barbaro’s remains were buried under the statue, as he will be remembered always~
Here are other artists that have depicted famous racehorses~

Her painting of the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was exhibited National  Portrait Gallery and her painting of Lester Piggott the jockey on Park Top was included in the Treasures of Chatsworth  exhibition at the Royal Academy.

Long Island, NY

Richard Stone Reeves is one of the best known equine artists in the 20th century. He was born in NYC, but grew up in  Garden City on Long Island. His father was a painter and his mother’s family owned racehorses, and living by the Belmont Park was what started his love of horses.

Richard Stone Reeves has over a dozen of his works in the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in NY. I’d really like to go there one day!
