Happy Thanksgiving! Here in the US it is a time to give thanks. It has been 6 MONTHS since I started the Flying Shetlands at the end of May. I can’t believe it’s been that long and I would like to say thank you to all of my readers for liking, following and commenting on and about my blog. Also the artists that have contributed to my blog and contacted me! The emails and comments on my posts are really thoughtful and always enjoy reading them! And thanks to my friend, Cindy, and James Clear (www.jamesclear.com) for helping me start my blog. I would also like to thank Mary, the head librarian at our local library branch for helping me with burning a disc with the photos and forms ! I couldn’t have done it with out her!! I hope my posts have brightened your day!
In total, I have had readers from 67 different countries!!

This is not my Thanksgiving Horse that I was planning on exhibiting at Centenary College along with Fleur!!. I’m still planning on finishing my Thanksgiving Horse. I have had several challenges ,including that when I could get to work on it out side it was too cold for the glue. This is an outside sculpture …that I am hopefully going to complete inside in January! The east coast has had a LOT of snow this past week and between that our truck not working ( it spent more time in the shop then on the road!) I could not bring it over. I’ll show you the photos of it on a future post.

Above is a photo of my newest sculpture, my Hobbit Horse Table I created especially for the NJ Arts Annual. I would like to thank the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the the Morris Museum for the hosting this event.
I know I wouldn’t have created this smaller version of my Hobbit Horse if it wasn’t for this juried exhibit! I also want to thank all of my friends who saved their paper towel and toilet paper roll holders for me. Look at horse’s head …that’s the rolls! Thank you Pam Harris of Gingerbread Snowflakes (http://gingerbreadsnowflakes.com) for sharing her craft tips of curling the corn husks! I think my Hobbit Horse wouldn’t be complete with out the curly corn husk mane and tail:)

ACCESSORIZE—THE PERSON AND THE PLACE: FEB. 12 – APR. 19, 2015
My Artist Statement~
This past summer I read for the first time the Hobbit! I thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to make a very large hobbit type of sculpture.
I chose to make this small version for the NJAA ( New Jersey Arts Annual). When I was designing this table , I was inspired by the world largest equine monument, the Genghis Khan Monument. (In case you didn’t see my post you can here! https://artofthehorse.wordpress.com/2014/06/20/genghis-khan-and-his-horse-the-largest-horse-statue-in-the-world) I like the horse’s head observation deck and decided to use an old small table that had molding all around to make this sculpture. It reminded me of the observation deck and I knew at once that I want to create this piece.
I wanted to used old and new materials – old for the classic novel and new since it was new to me. The old -the stand , the look of worn wooded wheels and recycled paper and the new- gold and blue iridescent glass that give it a sense of magic. The curly corn husks give it a whimsical look which I really like! I also wanted a woody feel and stained the recycled papers gold / coppery earthy tones along with gourds that I grew and milkweed and other natural decorations.
Most of all it is a personal piece with my pony’s bit and reins from my ponies and horses tails. Every time I look at this piece it reminds me of a special place in my heart~
I don’t know if my piece will be chosen for this exhibit in February . I do know that I have had a lot fun exploring with a variety of textures, materials, and techniques. I know that my table enlivens my corner of my room!
It looks like my Hobbit Horse Table is just in time for the newest and last Hobbit movie (The Hobbit: battle of Five Armies) coming out this December! I’m really looking forward to this movie and I hope you get a chance to see it too!
