Ruth Green contacted me and showed me her art! I really like the texture that she has on her pieces like “Simpatico Series II” above. It gives it such a sense of uniqueness~

Below are the questions I asked her and her answers!! Be  sure to check out her site too:)

Ruth Green, raised in Los Angeles, spent her youth around horses – working and training, immersed in their world. From the world of competitive show jumping to beach and trail riding, all led to a passion for equine sculpting in bronze.

In addition to her equine sculptures, she also sculpts the female form in clay.

Ruth Green - Biography

Q:Do you own any horses that you use as models for your work?

A: I don’t any horses now, but I used to years ago. My sister and I trained hunters and jumpers. We also gave riding lessons. Primarily, I use pictures in books and on the internet. I have friends with horses and will sometimes take pictures as a reference. The one large bust is a actual horse named Contefino, a Holsteiner. He is at stud now making a lot of beautiful babies. He used to compete at the Grand Prix jumping level in both the US and Italy.

Q: What is your favorite thing about the art that you do?

A: The favorite part of art is that I love the act of doing it. It starts with an idea in your mind, a gesture or a feeling. From that you start to plan out the sculpture with an armature which (as you probably know) is the metal wire underneath the oil based clay. It is the intersection of the emotion of the gesture and the skill needed to create it.

Q:Do  you work in other mediums mediums besides sculpture?

A: No

Q:What is your favorite art piece that you have done so far?

A: My favorite piece of sculpture is always the one I am currently working on. It is like being with that one good friend for many, many days.

Q: Do you have any upcoming events/shows coming up?

A: As I mentioned, Sullivan-Goss Art Gallery had a group show opening on December 4th. My Simpatico Series II ( a mare and foal) was in the show.
