Zhao Mengfu is thought to have been one of the first Chinese painters to bring back the eighth century style of Chinese painting. He painted in the more cruder style then the refined, gentle brushwork of his era. He was married to Guan Daosheng, who was also an accomplished poet, painter and calligrapher. He was well known for his paintings of horses.
