For the next 12 days starting on Christmas Day and ending on January 5th (the traditional “12 Days Of Christmas”) I will be featuring 12 equine artists. Over 80 artists entered in the contest to be featured on our Facebook group Art Of The Horse (which has over 3,400 members!). I used this handy tool to randomly pick 12 of the entrants to be featured on TFS. For day five, let’s meet Vonnie Muniain and her whimsical equine sculptures!

I live on a small ranch with my husband, Brian, two horses, two dogs and several cats. I was lucky to grow up with horses. I was in love with horses even before I was born. Most of my family are into horses too. My granddad was a horse trainer as is my brother, my dad and uncle are both retired horseshoers, and my sister is a vet assistant. I guess you could say it is in my blood.

I started very young drawing and doing art projects. My mom used to give me crayons and paper to keep me busy and out of mischief,( it worked most of the time haha.) If I wasn’t out riding my horse, I was drawing them. I can’t imagine not being around horses, riding, brushing, painting, sculpting or just dreaming of them. Horses are always there for me.

I want my art to capture the beauty, grace, strength, gentleness, patience, whimsy, and love that horses represent to me.

I am basically a self taught artist who loves to work in multiple mediums to help me create art that expresses the love I have for horses. A few of the mediums I like to work in are pencil, pastels, scratchboard, acrylic, water media, clay and metal. I believe working in multimedia gives me the opportunity to express myself. I get energized by trying new things and mixing it up my mediums.

I look forward to the next challenge to see how far I can push myself with my mediums, and my subject. To me art is endless possibilities and challenges.
