Here’s another post to make up for the ones that I missed! Here are three upcoming poster contests … Hope you all enjoy!
Hampton Classic Horse Show Poster Contest~
I asked Shanette Barth Colhen, the Executive Director of The Hampton Classic a few questions about the poster contest–here are her answers!!
Are photos and mixed media allowed? Yes – we only have had two posters that featured photographs, and we really haven’t had much in the way of mixed media, but both are allowed. Note that it’s unlikely the committee would select an image that featured a particularly identifiable horse or rider and sponsor names/logos aren’t ideal either.
How many photos are allowed to send of the artwork and can an entrant have multiple entries? Artists may send in as many entries as they’d like, but only one image of each entry should be provided. As the artwork will end up being a poster, the submitted piece should be sent in as if that were the actual poster image being proposed (no need to include graphics of the show name, dates, location unless the artist would like to and/or designs some or all of those elements into the piece).
Any age requirements? Artists of any age may participate. Most people who submit artwork for consideration are professional artists.
Something else you might want to keep in mind – the committee likes to choose pieces that are different than past poster images. It’s also important that it represents either a neutral image of horse(s) in general or if discipline specific, fits with a hunter/jumper event (so polo or dressage focused images would probably not be selected).
The Hampton Classicis taking submissions through MARCH 1st.
If you are selected as the poster artist, they ask that you grant the Hampton Classic the right to print the artwork as a poster and on select souvenir merchandise. We also ask the artist to sign and number 50 of the posters. We will provide the artist with 200 posters and a selection of any souvenirs that have the poster image on it. The artist retains the original artwork. We also ask the artist to agree that the same piece of artwork will not be utilized on any other horse show posters.
Please don’t send actual artwork. They accept paintings, photography, mixed media, graphic designs, and drawings formatted horizontally or vertically.
