Inge Dagmar Manders~

Born in: 1966

Location: Sakabula, South Africa

Inge Dagmar Manders was born in Holland in 1966 and has lived in many countries, such as Ethiopia, New Zealand, Brazil and Switzerland to name a few! She now currently resides in  Sakabula, South Africa were she also has her studio.

Inge has worked in industrial design, advertising, languages, safari guiding and interior design before moving to a farm in the KZN Midlands ( an inland area of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa). She has also worked for almost 10 years  as an operator  a holiday destination for the equestrians.  Inge has owned various breeds of horses, from Friesians, Arabians, TB’s, Welsh ponies and a Lusitano stallion in Brazil. She still owns Yogi, her Black Arab Stallion, as she says the” love of my life”. She also owns seven cats that sometimes appear in her paintings.

Living around the world greatly influenced my art and am drawn to unusual mediums and techniques. My passion these days lies with gold, copper and silver leaf in composite and pure forms, in combination with oil paint. It’s a technique that has taken me a number of years to perfect, especially the pagination process of the various metal leaves.”~ Inge Dagmar Manders

Do you own any horses that you use as models for your work?
I have owned numerous horses throughout my life and ran a Stud/Livery yard/out ridding destination for about 10 years. I had all sorts of breeds, from Shetland/Welsh and basuto ponies ( a pony breed from Lesotho and South Africa), to TB’s, Frieisans, Arabians and cross breeds. So, I had lot’s of models to work from. Today I still own and love my little 29 yr old black Arabian stallion Yogi…who has been my muse….
Do you ride competitively?
I have ridden competitively on a few occasions. Mainly dressage, but I concentrated more on training horses for other people.

What is your favorite thing about the art that you do?
I love expressing the power and grace that horses exude and try to capture the love of horses and how much of an enrichment they add to our lives. Working with the metal and precious metal leaf gives an added element of luxury.

Why did you chose to do paintings?
I have worked with various mediums , but find that I can be the most expressive by painting, and mainly in oil paint.
Do you have any upcoming events/shows coming up?
Not at the moment, but have had a few galleries approach me to exhibit my work.
