Johann Georg de Hamilton was a was a Scottish still-life and animal painter, most famous for his equine and Lippizzaner paintings. He was of a Scottish noble family who moved to the Netherlands in 1666. Later in 1698, he settled in Vienna together with his brother Philipp Ferdinand, where he lived and painted for the rest of his life.
More than 300 years later, you can find his work in various collections and establishments, including Christie’s Art Auction, where one of his paintings fetched $425,880 USD.
