Meet Prolific Contemporary Western Artist, Peggy Judy

When I first discovered Peggy Judy’s equine art, I was imminently drawn to the bold lines, color and graphic composition of her paintings, bringing both contemporary style and the rich history of the west together in such a seamless way.

Studying Illustration and earning her BFA at the Colorado State University, she started to create the foundation for her artistic future. However, Peggy excelled at another career area before becoming a fullfledged artist: Horse trainer, breeder and manager, while also raising her two children with her husband on their farm in Colorado, USA. Now, while only being a full-time artist for the last five years or so, Peggy has developed her own contemporary western style, participated in numerous art exhibits in America, and represented by top galleries around the country, as well as being held in private and public collections in America and Europe.

As a Contemporary Western artist, Peggy describes her work in this way:

Traditional and well honored western subject matter with a different perspective and expressive interpretation. Using a more graphic approach to composition and design that comes from my illustration background I try to describe the intensity of the west as it was lived in the past and still is today by a select few of weathered souls. Portray the animals that still grace our western states and those that care for them.

Running Wild
Just last year, Peggy was the featured artist in the Southwest Art Magazine August 2018 issue, as well as a show stopping part of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Invitational Art Show in Cheyenne, CO Cowgirl Up “Art from the Other half of the West” art show in Wickensburg, AZ just this year. Her full resume of shows and exhibits is just as extensive as the galleries and museums that hold her paintings as well. From the Rockwell Museum of Western Art New York, NY Exhibition in 2014 to the Bone Creek Museum and galleries such as Wilde Meyer Gallery, Acosta Strong Gallery, Equis Art Gallery, Western Star Gallery and many others, Peggy shows that no matter were you live or what place in life you are in, you can achieve your dreams and become the exceptional artist that you want to be.
